Wajahat Ali has posted (after, characteristically, spearheading the drafting of) a statement signed by a number of prominent Muslims--plus myself-- on the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedyon HuffPo called "A Muslim American Declaration." Please check it out. I think it came out very nicely.

A few Muslim bloggers have objected to the statement, objecting to it as a sort of "loyalty oath." There's a thread on this issue on Talk Islam. http://talkislam.info/2011/09/09/ive-signed-this-muslim-american-declaration-as/
So far, their comments have only been in haiku form on Twitter, but I imagine they'll probably chime in with more detailed objections soon.

Muslims, especially the sub-continental varieties, have been programmed to believe that it is improper for them to be loyal to non-Muslim governments and societies. No wonder then that they object to your "loyalty oath"
